2011-2012 VIRGINIA NATIONAL TEAM
INVITATION, EVENTS AND COST (Updated 07SEP11)
Coaches, Wrestlers and Parents,
“Team Virginia” is assembling state-wide Elementary (ES) and Middle School (MS) teams to compete in national events. Any/all Virginia wrestlers are invited to earn a position on the respective team. The first event occurs on 13NOV11 and the last 10-12FEB12. This is an opportunity for all of the best youth wrestlers in Virginia to compete together on one team against the best individuals/teams in the nation. Participants get 5-9 high quality matches at each event. Apply by 17SEP11 (see paragraph below for instructions).
Team Selection: Coach Kibler will communicate required wrestle-offs by 24SEP11. Parent organized wrestle-offs will be conducted throughout the state 24SEP-15OCT11. The final opportunity to complete wrestle-offs is at the Stafford Stampede wrestling tournament on 16OCT11 - exhibition matches will be used when necessary. Wrestle-off rules: one 2-2-2 minute match for MS and one 1.5-1.5-1.5 minute match for ES; wrestlers weigh-in together immediately prior and must be within 5.0lbs of their weight class or forfeit the wrestle-off; parents mutually agree on time/place, scale to be used and the person officiating; no coaching is allowed during wrestle-offs unless both parties agree to allow it prior; the parent of the winning wrestler reports results to Coach Kibler. Wrestle-offs will be complete on 16OCT11.
Weight Class Selection: Parents must select a weight class that their wrestler can make the full series. Consider expected growth. For Middle School wrestlers, please pay special attention to each tournament’s weight class, as some vary between events. When applying, identify the weight class your son desires to compete at in each event. If no 50-67 lb Middle School kids apply then 50-67lbers from the Elementary School team will wrestle at applicable Middle School events. Unfortunately, occasionally Tournament Directors announce a weight allowance as the event approaches. Coach Kibler reserves the right to adjust the line-up in the event a significant weight allowance is given. Parents are not reimbursed event fees should their wrestler does not make weight at an event.
Alternate Wrestlers: Runner-ups of wrestle-offs are invited to be rostered alternates and travel with the team. Alternates become the primary wrestler in the event of sickness/injury, tournament disqualification or failure to make weight. Alternates are likely (not guaranteed) to get an equitable number of exhibitions matches. In some duals the alternate can find a place on another team.

“Team Virginia” will not field a team for Montville Duals, NJ (10-11DEC11*) or Kolat Duals, MD (01JAN12). However, those interested should contact Coach Kurt McHenry kurtmchenry@verizon.net who will likely field a “Virginia Black/Gold” team.
Application: Contact Coach Kibler by email at powerhousewrestling@gmail.com by 17SEP11, identifying the weight class your son desires to compete at in each event. Coach Kibler will consolidate applicant information and communicate required wrestle-offs by 24SEP11.
Cost:
- Registration fees for six MS Dual Events and Philo Invitational - $310.00.
- Registration fees for three ES Dual Events - $150.00*.
- Uniform (MANDATORY) Singlets - $75.00; Shirt & Short Set - $25.00 – Other apparel will be available for purchase
- Total for MS - $410.00; Total for ES - $250.00*
* If an ES wrestlers competes in any of the MS events, he must pay his portion of the of the MS dual team registration fee for that/those specific event(s).
Payment Schedule: Make checks payable to “Powerhouse Wrestling”.
- Payment #1, 22OCT11: Full non-refundable payment for uniform ($100) and 50% payment of registration fees ($155) for MS and $75 for ES).
- Payment #2, 12NOV11: Remaining 50% payment of registration fees ($155 for MS and $75 for ES).

Practice: There is no mandatory practice this season. However, all VA National Team hopefuls are highly encouraged to participate in the Stafford Stampede wrestling tournament on 16OCT11 which serves as both a practice and a final wrestle-off opportunity.
Commitment: Applicants for “Team Virginia” commit to all scheduled events.
